Local Organ Donors & Families To Be Honored Tuesday

Tuesday night Providence Holy Cross will remember those who died in the past year and donated organs. Their families will be honored by the medical center and OneLegacy – Southern California’s organ donation and transplant nonprofit.

Santa Clarita firefighter Brian Hinsley will speak at the ceremony. After receiving a liver transplant in 2000, Hinsley was back saving lives at Fire Station 107 in Canyon Country in less than six months – one of the first firefighters ever to get back on duty following an organ transplant.

Hinsley has since become an advocate for organ transplants and lends his name and story to organ donation causes.

The families present and honored at the ceremony will take part in OneLegacy’s annual Rose Dedication ceremony. Families will write personal notes to those they have lost. Those messages are put in vials filled with flowers for placement on OneLegacy’s 10th annual Tournament of Roses parade float.

Each of the dedicated roses will carry a personal message of love and remembrance from people across the nation who has been touched by organ and tissue donation. The Donation Garden on the float carries the messages, roses and 32 float riders from around the nation.

The remembrance and dedication will take place this Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Providence Holy Cross’ Conference Center in Mission Hills.
