Metrolink Holiday Toy Express Is Coming To Town Sunday

Michelle Fechtelkotter / KHTS News

City officials are inviting residents to celebrate holiday cheer in Santa Clarita this season with the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express on Sunday at 7 p.m.

“The Metrolink Holiday Toy Express is a wonderful holiday event, the train is decorated and the kids have a wonderful time watching the show with Santa on the train.” said TimBen Boydston the executive director of the Canyon Theater Guild. “Last year, they made it snow, it was like magic.”

The train will stop at the Jan Heidt Newhall Metrolink Station where there will be live musical performances, as well as holiday carolers from the Canyon Theater Guild.  Santa, Mrs. Claus and their friends aboard the train will be there collecting donations for the Spark of Love Toy Drive which is sponsored by Metrolink and ABC 7.

Residents are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy and experience the joy of giving this holiday season.  The Old Town Newhall Association will be serving hot chocolate and cookies.

The 450-ton train will spread cheer across Southern California until Dec. 22.  The Metrolink Holiday Toy Express will make 41 stops over six weekends in six counties. From city to city, there will be performances by Santa, Mrs. Claus and other holiday characters entertaining families and collecting toys for the less fortunate.

“The Metrolink Holiday Toy Express brings joy to the community and is a great way to help spread holiday cheer this season,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “Decorated with holiday displays and 50,000 twinkling lights, the train allows residents to donate to children in need while enjoying fun, holiday activities.”

Santa Clarita residents are invited to come out and see the train decorated with 50,000 lights and other beautiful holiday decorations.  Celebrating its 16 year of operation, the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express will visit 41 communities.

Everyone is invited to enjoy the greeting of the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express and to bring a new unwrapped toy that will be collected by Santa, Mrs. Claus and their helpers.  All the toys will be donated to the Southland Firefighters for distribution to the children.

The Newhall Metrolink Station is located at 24300 Railroad Ave. in Old Town Newhall.
