New Community Center Opens In Canyon Country

Canyon Country Community CenterThe City of Santa Clarita will celebrate the grand opening of its new Canyon Country Community Center this Saturday, January 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Visitors may tour the new facility, and children who attend can help create artwork to be featured in the Center.

The new Center will serve as a meeting place for local agencies and community programs, such as the ACTION Support Group for teens; the anti-gang program, Parents on a Mission; and Friday Night Lights, a recreational program for junior high students.

The goal is to make the Center a hub for programs and classes serving area residents. According to Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar, “The City’s goal with the new Center is to positively impact social issues, resulting in a lower crime rate and a more productive, healthy and engaged community.”

In summertime, the Center will offer a summer youth programming for children grades 1-6 and specialty camps.

The Center will also serve the SCV adult community through Club 50 classes and events, senior programming, and classes for parents with children ages one to five.

The new Canyon Country Center joins the Newhall Community Center as one of two community centers serving the Santa Clarita Valley. It will be open Mondays through Fridays, 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The Center will also be available two Sundays a month for children’s birthday party rentals. Parties for children ages 5 to 12 years old can be scheduled on those Sundays from 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m.
